Brody School of Medicine
The Brody School of Medicine at ECU was established in 1975 and is guided by a philosophy calling for balanced emphasis on patient care, research and teaching programs for medical students, residents and fellows. Major goals of the medical school have been to expand opportunities for medical education in the state and to improve the quality and quantity of physicians in eastern North Carolina.
The school is renowned for its primary care training, and is frequently one of the top medical schools in the nation in the US News and World Report survey of medical schools.
Patients from throughout eastern North Carolina seek care at the medical school’s clinical practices. The diverse patient mix gives residents and fellows an opportunity to gain experience with a wide variety of medical problems, while a favorable ratio between learners and faculty contributes to good rapport and the availability of extended one-on-one teaching.
East Carolina University is the third largest campus of the University of North Carolina System. It began in 1907 as a small, state-supported teacher training school and has evolved into a comprehensive doctoral research institution that offers nationally recognized academic programs in numerous fields. The current enrollment is more than 23,000 students.
